Greetings to all, and welcome to Chandler,
the heart of the MRC du Rocher-Percé.
The new City of Chandler stems from the 2001 merger implicating Newport, Pabos Mills, Pabos, St-François, and of course Chandler. With its 8,200 citizens, Chandler is the second most important city on the Gaspé Coast. |

Once upon a time, our municipality depended on two major industries: cod fishing in Newport, and pulp and paper in Chandler. We now understand that we must diversify our economy in order to create a strong and sustainable environment for the future.
The adventure has already started! Before the end of 2005, we should see Énergie PGE begin its activities. This business assembles wind mills designed for international markets. For a second year in a row, the CTMA Vacancier ferry has docked in Chandler, acting as a transit between Montreal and the Magdalen Islands. A variety of other projects are taking shape, going from the wind mill sector to the processing of sea products. With its deep seaport, its airport, and its railway system, Chandler has the necessary tools in order to diversify its economy.
It is also important to mention that Chandler's tourism industry is growing substantially, due to the activities and splendor that it offers. Moreover, the Bolduc, the Bourg de Pabos, the Base de plein air de Bellefeuille, the 18-hole golf course, the marina, the salmon rivers and the ZEC des Anses, are assets that create a climate of peace and enjoyment that encourages our tourists to remain with us a little while longer.
I hope you have a great stay in Chandler.
Claude Cyr,
Mayor City of Chandler |
